Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bronzing?
Bronzing is a process in which an item is encased in a layer of pure copper. The copper is first oxidized and then polished to achieve a lustrous shine.
Is it something I can do myself?
No. There are other ways to bronze baby shoes, like painting or dipping them into a metallic pigment, but our process encases the shoe in layer of pure metal. It is true electroplating.
Which shoes work best?
Leather and most plastics. Laces, buckles and Velcro fasteners are all fine.
Can I leave the laces untied?
Sorry, but we must tie the laces on all shoes so they do not break off during the process. Unfortunately, shoe laces that are not adhered to the shoe tend to be too fragile and break. We can leave the laces untied and affixed to the sides of the shoes upon request.
Can you Bronze anything?
Other keepsake items can be successfully electroplated, children’s toys and sports items can also be bronzed.
How long does it take?
Our baby shoe bronzing has a turnaround of about 5-6 weeks, it’s a craft that cannot be rushed as the shoe goes through many processes.
What is the best way to care for bronzed baby shoes?
Our finish is everlasting. A dry soft cloth is all that is needed to keep the shoes clean. No polishing is necessary as the shoes have been applied with a protective lacquer.
Is the process reliable?
We take the greatest care with all our orders and have never had a pair of shoes spoiled by our bronzing process.
